SacriFire is an upcoming JRPG that has been known about for a while, and in the new trailer that aired for Future Games Show Summer Showcase, it is inching closer to release. We still do not have an exact date of launch, but we do now have a launch window. The game aims to bring a modern and fresh spin in a retro, 90s-style package, one that pays homage to the classic 90s legends. Based on the package shown today, Pixelated Milk, the development studio, is well on its way to achieving exactly that.
SacriFire aims to give players a fully nostalgic blast from the past, honoring some of the great JRPGs of the 90s. That is immediately evident just from one glimpse of the beautiful, HD-2D style pixel imagery and one listen of the iconic music. On the official Steam Page, the team offers a description that says, “SacriFire is an upcoming RPG boasting a unique combat system, elaborate pixel art, and music by genre legend Motoi Sakuraba. Ezekiel Ridan, a young priest, struggles to keep his faith as the world he loves is threatened by a war between gods and demons. The adventure begins!”
And an adventure it will certainly be. The combat is a fresh play on the nostalgic turn-based JRPGs, that combines real-time elements with turn-based style and strategy. The storyline offers complex moral dilemmas that will offer plenty of twists and turns. Gameplay offers a diverse depth that was not seen in some of the JRPGs that inspired SacriFire, but should offer players plenty of opportunity for customization and playing the game in their style.
Pixelated Milk highlights some of the key features that can draw players to the game.
- Dynamic battles – Our combat engine merges real-time and turn-based styles to provide a fluid experience that is both challenging and satisfying. Fight alongside companions, choose from multiple weapons, and string attacks together to create elaborate combos.
- High-quality presentation – Employing both pixel art and 3D graphics allows us to combine retro-style graphics with innovative digital effects wizardry. Hand-drawn and animated characters blend seamlessly with 3D-modeled environments.
- Moral complexity – SacriFire’s original story aims to both respect and subvert the standard RPG tropes, so although you’ll feel right at home with our cast of lovable characters, you’ll never know what to expect next!
- A tale of two worlds – Travel between the sprawling subterranean city of Antioch and the idyllic spirit paradise of Erebus in a well-developed game universe which includes elements of both fantasy and science-fiction.
- Elaborate gameplay systems – Adopt diverse combat disciplines, craft weapons, solve puzzles and tackle imaginative dungeons.
- Original Music and professional voice acting – A brand new soundtrack composed by G4F and the legendary Motoi Sakuraba. The talented Sound Cadence Studios bring SacriFire’s memorable cast to life!
For those looking for a 2026 twist to iconic classics such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest, SacriFire should scratch that itch and then some. Check out the most recent trailer below.
SacriFire’s Future Games Show trailer was not just about gameplay; it also showed off a new release date window, which appears to be coming in the relatively near future. The game is expected to release sometime in quarter 1 for PC. Meanwhile, a console version of the game will make its way to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch later in 2026, although the exact release window is not yet set. As a fan of classic JRPGs, this game is one I have been waiting on for a while. So far, the team has left quite an impression, so for other fans of JRPGs, get ready for a whole new adventure!
