Have you ever wanted Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man to work together? They fought each other in Super Smash Bros, but in the upcoming Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac DLCs, they will be joining forces in racing and platforming adventures. Yes, each game gets a unique crossover DLC.
The DLC trailer, which debuted at Gamescom 2025, banks heavily on the appeal of these two gaming icons working together. It opens with Sonic delivering Pac-Man a birthday gift with his trademark speed. The trailer also seems to be promoting Pac-Man in Sonic’s world more than Sonic in Pac-Man’s world. We see Pac-Man racing with Sonic in Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and collecting rings while zipping through Sonic-style platforming levels, but we don’t see Sonic running from ghosts or eating power pellets.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog racing game that features multiple worlds to race through. It releases on September 25. Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac is a remake of the classic 3D platformer starring Pac-Man, which releases on September 26. Since both games are set for release within one day of each other, having crossover DLC for both games is a clever way to promote both of them, though some players might grumble at being asked to pay for two DLC packs right off the bat.
If the popularity of Super Smash Bros and The Avengers tells us anything, it’s that people love crossovers. There’s just something appealing about seeing your favorite characters from different franchises teaming up. While having to buy two DLCs for two separate games to get the whole experience might turn some people off, you can also purchase the DLCs one at a time and stretch your experience out. In any case, watching the blue blur and the dot muncher team up should be a nostalgia overload.
