Holy Terra, it’s happening! After years of waiting and praying to the God-Emperor, Warhammer 40K fans finally got the news they’ve been desperately craving. At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, the gaming gods smiled upon us mere mortals and blessed us with the announcement of Dawn of War IV. And honestly? I’m not sure my heart can handle this level of excitement.

What Makes This Warhammer 40K Announcement So Special

The Dawn of War series has been through some rough patches. Dawn of War III left many of us feeling like we’d been on the wrong end of a chainsword. But this Gamescom reveal has me cautiously optimistic, and here’s why: King Art Games is taking the helm from Relic Entertainment, promising to return the series to its strategic roots.

The trailer dropped during Gamescom’s opening ceremony like a perfectly timed orbital bombardment, showcasing four unique factions ready to purge heretics in the name of the Emperor. What caught my attention immediately was the promise of the Adeptus Mechanicus making their series debut. Finally! The tech-priests get their moment to shine with their blessed machinery and incense-fueled rituals.

Dawn of War IV Features That Have Me Hyped

King Art Games isn’t messing around with this Warhammer 40K entry. They’re promising over 70 epic campaign missions – that’s enough content to keep even the most dedicated Space Marine busy for months. The game supports solo play for us antisocial types, plus co-op for when you want to purge xenos with friends.

The multiplayer scene looks solid too, offering 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 matches. Whether you’re commanding the Ultramarines or leading a WAAAGH! with the Orks, there’s something here for every flavor of grimdark warfare. Plus, they’re bringing back Last Stand mode, which honestly had me questioning my life choices back in the day (in the best possible way).

Why This Gamescom Moment Matters for RTS Fans

Here’s the thing about Warhammer 40K games – when they’re good, they’re legendary. When they’re bad… well, let’s not talk about those dark times. The Gamescom announcement feels different, though. King Art Games seems to understand what made the original Dawn of War so special: that perfect blend of brutal combat, strategic depth, and enough grimdark atmosphere to make you question humanity’s place in the universe.

The fact that longtime Warhammer author John French is handling the story gives me genuine hope. This isn’t some cash-grab sequel thrown together by suits who think Space Marines are just “cool robot soldiers.” This feels like a project made by people who understand the 41st millennium’s particular brand of organized chaos.

Set for a 2026 PC release, Dawn of War IV can’t come soon enough. You can already wishlist it on Steam, which I recommend doing – if only to show the gaming industry that we’re still hungry for proper RTS games in our increasingly battle royale-dominated world.

The Emperor protects, brothers and sisters. And apparently, he protects our beloved Dawn of War series, too.
