Sul Sul Sims 4 fans! EA has dropped the gameplay trailer for Adventure Awaits, and it’s even more than expected. After the announcement, my reaction was pretty positive, but now… I’m ready to shout, “Shut up and take my money!” And, like anyone who loves games, I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
It’s another in a long line of Expansion Packs for The Sims 4, and if you’re like me, with every release, you question if it’s worth your hard-earned cash. I think you can tell by my intro that I’m already saying yes to this one. Adventure Awaits introduces a new neighborhood, but this time, it’s filled with getaways. This isn’t another vacation expansion. It’s so much more than that.
At first glance, you see the three experiences that have already been included for you. That’s the children’s summer camp, Camp Gibbi Gibbi, the fitness getaway, Revive and Thrive, and Love Highland, which is a romantic getaway with eliminations like many a reality TV show.
It also introduces imaginary friends, new skills, and activities, along with some great additions for children. I already covered all of that in my earlier article. You can read all about it here.
The announcement didn’t paint the whole picture, and, as hoped, the gameplay trailer for Adventure Awaits showed so much more that I’m now utterly convinced that this expansion is one I must have for my game.
Imaginary friends are a fun trope of childhood. Not all kids have them, but I’m given to understand that some do. In any case, it’s a fun thing to play with in a game and makes me think of Disney’s Inside Out and the lovely character Bing Bong. (I still cry at the scene when he helps Joy.) From the announcement, we saw that there would be a toy that comes to life as the imaginary friend to play with the child. And, we see that there are several different ones (hello, Equestria Girl-looking unicorn).
The new video adds actual gameplay of a second imaginary friend and the ability to either say goodbye to them forever or to MAKE THEM REAL! What! I did not see that coming, and I absolutely love it.
We had a glimpse of the schedules and rules when The Sims 4 released the announcement video, but the trailer shows more of this in action. Also, they shared customizing existing venues and even creating them from scratch. The menus look intuitive and robust with many options. I like the idea of being able to create a regimented schedule or little to no schedule at all. That’s the kind of customization that makes games really fun.
This was the part that really made me squee in excitement. In addition to the types of venues we’ve seen through the premade ones, two stood out in the Adventure Awaits gameplay trailer. First, they showed a group of Sims cooking and called it “The Great Gibbi Bake Off!” Can you imagine? OK, maybe you aren’t a Great British Baking Show (Bake Off in the UK) fan, but if you are, then you’ll know why this is so exciting. Having Sims competing in a cooking competition sounds like such fun.
And, if that’s not enough reality TV goodness for you, they also showed Sul Sul Island, a Survivor clone but with the twist of a vampire on the tropical island with the contestants. Survivor may be old and tired, but recreating it in The Sims 4? Yes, please! And, that brings to mind, what else can we create in this Expansion? There are some very creative Simmers who will be sharing their creations, and I can’t wait to see what everyone dreams up.
Will I? Absolutely, yes! Will I be preordering it? Maybe. I do want to play with this Sims 4 expansion ASAP! It’s going to be tough to wait for a sale on it. The good news is that, with each new Expansion, EA is more likely to discount previous ones in the next sale. So, that’s our chance to fill up our Sims 4 catalog with new stuff!
Adventure Awaits looks like it’s adding a ton of new gameplay to a game that can become repetitive after a while. I’m looking forward to playing around with those venue creation menus to see what can really be done with them. And, once the modders get their hands on it? There’s no telling what kind of adventures we’ll be able to play out!
You can preorder the Expansion now for $39.99, and it will release on Oct. 2, 2025. It’s available for Steam, Epic Games, PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox. And, if you haven’t played The Sims 4, you can play the base game version for free!
