Even in this age of digital books, there’s a certain charm about visiting a secondhand bookstore and seeing what treasures await. Tiny Bookshop captures that charm perfectly with a little mobile bookshop in a seaside town. In addition, the game might help you find your next favorite book.
Developed by Neoludic Games, Tiny Bookshop oozes charm the instant you drive your mobile bookshop to the seashore. The business sim side of the game is simple: you buy books in different genres, stock your shelves, and choose what part of town to set up shop for the day. Certain genres might be more popular in certain locations, so you have to stock accordingly. In addition, you can buy decorations that might boost the sales of certain genres or make certain genres less popular. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, with interesting characters stopping at your shop. There’s a real sense of community as you get to know the locals and go to different events.
Customers will frequently ask you for book recommendations. They’ll describe the kinds of books they like, and then you get to rummage through your stock to see what you’ve got. The neat thing is that most of the books in your shop are real, and as you read their descriptions, you might find yourself getting interested. You might find a book recommendation for the customer, but more importantly, you might also find something you want to read. It’s a great way to encourage people to read more books in real life without pushing them to do so.
I actually wrote another article about this game when it was featured in the recent Nintendo Indie World Showcase. As soon as I saw the trailer, I knew I had to get this game. As a lifelong lover of books who misses the days when physical bookstores were popular hangouts, I instantly fell in love with the premise, and the game itself did not disappoint. Both bookworms and fans of cozy games should absolutely check Tiny Bookshop out. It can be purchased on Steam for $19.99. Who knows? It might even direct you to a new reading addiction.
