Two flying boss encounters that both spawn adds. Ah, the horror. Ultimately, these two bosses are technically optional, though beating double Moss Mothers does give you a very useful Blue Tool, and killing Savage Beastfly opens up a Task you probably want to complete. In any event, you can fight them or not fight them at your own discretion. That said, if you wait until Act 3 to face them, they will be significantly more difficult.
First of all, this fight gives you the Weavelight, which acts like another Silkheart. Secondly, it’s amazing how the addition of one more Moss Mother creates so much more chaos.
It would be advisable to have Cling Grip before you fight this boss. It’ll give you more options to avoid damage. Take out the adds as quickly as possible. Tacks work surprisingly well for this fight.
I know that the general option is that Tacks aren’t great against flying enemies, but the Moss Mothers swoop low enough to the ground to be affected by them, so they still work. Plus, they can take out the ground adds without you having to worry about them yourself.
This is the boss you have to kill to get the Beast Crest. Run back isn’t too bad. Just remember, if you leave, meet Shakra somewhere else, and then come back, you’ll have to deal with a Skarr Stalker and its booby trap along the way.
If you don’t intend on using the Beast Crest (and only want it for completion), this boss can be delayed until later down the line. You will need to kill it to open up the Wish version (which gives you a Mask Shard), so you’ll have to fight it eventually.
Like with the Moss Mothers, Cling Grip gives you more options for avoidance, and the Savage Beastfly’s charge is low enough to get hit by Tacks. You can also manipulate where it slams into the ground, so you can move it onto already placed Tacks or cause it to kill adds. The adds are the biggest problem, so try and take them out quickly.
The Beastfly has a habit of drifting around after you as it decides what move to do next. If you keep moving, it will keep drifting and eventually get close enough that you can’t avoid it. Try just standing still (I know, easier than it sounds) and it should make up its mind.
