Donkey Kong Bananza looks like it will be an awesome game made with plenty of love for the series’ legacy. The Nintendo Direct for the game stated that the villains will be the Void Co., a corrupt group of minors who are new characters. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from spreading rumors that the most iconic villain in the Donkey Kong series will make an appearance.
As Games Radar pointed out, Donkey Kong Bananza feels like a tribute to all things Donkey Kong. In addition to the original arcade damsel, Pauline, playing a major role, the Direct for the game gave us glimpses of favorite characters such as Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. In addition, it showed the DK Rap from Donkey Kong 64 as an unlockable soundtrack song. It would only make sense to include King K. Rool, the main villain from the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy.
Fans have pointed out that the Crockoid bosses in the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct resemble the Kremlings, King K. Rool’s minions. Of course, it’s also hard to ignore the Donkey Kong Country-style sidescrolling bonus stages, would could be another hint that the iconic crocodile will return. Perhaps the Void Co. is actually working for King K. Rool somehow, and he will make a surprise appearance as the final boss of the game. After King K. Rool was added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster by popular demand, it would seem an injustice to not include him.
Nintendo seems to want this game to celebrate Donkey Kong’s history and legacy. Given King K. Rool’s popularity, I think Nintendo would want to at least reference him, even if they don’t include the character himself. Still, remember that people thought Diddy Kong would be absent from Donkey Kong Bananza until the Direct revealed that he was in the game. Perhaps they’re hiding the mighty crocodile from us.
