When y’all start playing Cronos The New Dawn, you are tasked with a quest of collecting Essences from Fallen Travelers with the mindset of it just being another collectible hunt… Nope. Not even close. Each Essence you extract from these poor souls actually matters, and some of the decisions you make can completely change your story experience. Plus, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good power boost? So! I present to you a guide on how to track down every single Fallen Traveler and their precious Essences.

Who are the Fallen Travelers of Cronos The New Dawn?

Let’s first explain what we are getting into. The Fallen Travelers are essentially the remnants of agents who didn’t make it through whatever cosmic horror along the way on their mission. Basically, becoming ghostly echoes in the shells that contain powerful abilities that you can absorb. The game features nine possible Essences scattered across five different Fallen Travelers.

But, like the various curfuffles that come with the post-apocalyptic survival territory, not all of them are just sitting around waiting for you to stumble upon them. Some are tied to major story moments of the game, while others are tucked away in places you might completely miss if you’re not paying attention. You have your scavenger hunt mission while you survive scavengers hunting you. (See what I did there)

The Story-Related Fallen Travelers You Can’t Miss

These are going to be the more straightforward Essences that you will come across through regular story progression. They are perfect for players who just want to experience the narrative of the game without turning into completionist maniacs (like myself). Only four of the Fallen Travelers are tied to the game’s plot.

Wisniewski, Edward – The Fire Damage Boost

Edward’s Essence is your first taste of what these power-ups can do. This bad boy increases your damage against enemies that are on fire. Now that might not sound like much until you realize how many flammable creatures this game throws at you. You’ll encounter this one naturally through the story, so don’t worry about hunting it down.

The Baryka Brothers – Choose Your Fighter Moment

You’ll meet both Artur and Gabriel Baryka during your journey to the Steelworks, but there’s a catch: you have to make a choice within a choice. You can only extract one of their Essences! This is where it all depends on your shooting preferences between a handgun and a shotgun. Artur’s Essence boosts handgun headshot damage, perfect for players who fancy themselves as precision marksmen. Gabriel’s Essence makes shotgun shots more devastating when you hit multiple enemies. Ideal for those “spray and pray” moments when you’re in an Orphan mosh pit.

Zybert, Dawid – The Crafting Connoisseur

Dawid’s Essence reduces the Metal Scrap requirements for fabrication recipes. Compared to the initial Essences, it seems a bit bland since it doesn’t deal in offensive upgrades. BUT! When you’re desperately trying to craft that one item you need and you’re running short on materials, you’ll thank your lucky travelers. This story-tied Essence was hand-wrapped to ya.

Hidden Fallen Travelers – The Real Treasure Hunt Begins

Now we get to the fun part! The Fallen Travelers that the game doesn’t tell you about is an ultimate hidden quest to collect Essences that will amplify your gameplay. These require exploration, puzzle-solving, and sometimes just dumb luck to find. So keep your eyes peeled and your weapon at the ready ’cause we’re on a treasure hunt!

Marzec, Lidia – The Tram Station Discovery

Your first optional Fallen Traveler is sitting on a tram in Station A, looking like they’re just waiting for the next stop. Lidia Essence increases the energy you find, which comes in handy when you’re running low on juice during intense combat sequences. The tragic irony? This poor Traveler is sitting on public transportation, forever waiting for a journey she’ll never complete. (Probably the most unsettling discovery for me) At least her Essence can give you more power in your adventures.

Antoni, Surma – The Basement Dweller

Found in the sculptor’s house basement during the Gravity Boots section, Antoni’s Essence is arguably one of the most satisfying to obtain. This upgrade vastly increases your melee attack and Stomp damage, turning you into a close-combat powerhouse. Getting to Antoni requires finding the basement key on the upper level of the house. The way Antoni is found and the effect his Essence gives you sort of represents his last dire struggle to get free, trying to kick and pull again from those hands (…and I just gave myself chills).

Marzec, Marcel – The Toy Store Tragedy

Marcel’s story hits different when you find him in a locked toy store in Station B. You need to turn the power on first, which adds this eerie atmosphere of bringing light back to a place that should be filled with children’s laughter, but instead holds only death. His Essence increases movement speed while aiming, which is incredibly useful for maintaining mobility during firefights. Sometimes the smallest improvements make the biggest difference in gameplay flow.

Marzec, Krzysztof – The Abbey’s Hidden Secret

Located across the hall from where you acquire the Sword for the church door puzzle, Krzysztof’s Essence boosts Carbine damage while you’re not moving. This essentially turns you into a sniper, rewarding patience and positioning over run-and-gun tactics. The placement is brilliant, and then you’re rewarded with a Fallen Traveler just chilling nearby with a game-changing upgrade.

Lazarski, Daniel – The Final Challenge

The last Fallen Traveler appears during the Finale in the Citizens’ Police Station. After turning on the power in the holding cells, Daniel waits in the cell next to the power room with a corrupted Essence that provides a chance to deal multiplied damage. Finding Daniel feels like the game is tipping its hat to you for your exploration skills because you get rewarded with potentially the most powerful damage boost in the game.

Strategic Essence Collection

This is important: not every Essence suits all playstyles! If you prefer long-range attacks and practice social distancing, then Antoni’s melee boost isn’t going to revolutionize your experience. But if you want to get down and dirty, then Marcel’s aiming movement speed might not be your most used Essence. The beauty of Cronos The New Dawn’s system is that it forces you to make meaningful choices. You can’t just collect everything and become an unstoppable god…at least, not without multiple playthroughs.

Pay attention to how you usually play the game during your first few hours, then prioritize Essences that complement your style. Starting with a focused build will serve you better than trying to be good at everything. Remember, some of these choices affect achievements and story outcomes, so if you’re a completionist (guilty as charged), you might want to plan multiple playthroughs from the start.

Final Thoughts: The Morbidity of The Fallen

The Fallen Travelers in Cronos The New Dawn are used as storytelling devices that add depth to an already rich narrative while providing meaningful gameplay enhancements. Those poor, unfortunate souls were your predecessors who couldn’t follow through with their mission. In doing so, they left behind bits of “essential wisdom” they learned too late for the next Traveler fortunate enough to find them. Whether you’re methodically hunting down every single Essence or just grabbing the ones that cross your path naturally, each discovery adds another layer to your survival strategy in this beautifully twisted world.
