If you had asked most people heading into the Worlds Swiss Stage who would be in the 2-0 matches, their answers would have been the same. GenG Esports, T1, Hanwha Life Esports, and Bilibili Gaming. Now, after two days of play, all of those teams are 1-1. The only LCK team with a 2-0 record is KT Rolster, while the other slots are filled by Top Esports, Anyone’s Legend, and CTBC Flying Oyster.
Teams have now entered qualification and elimination territory. They will play a Best-of-Three Series, while teams with a 1-1 record play a Best-of-One Series. The draw is as follows:
Day Three – Qualification
KT Rolster Versus Top Esports
CTBC Flying Oyster Versus Anyone’s Legend
Day Four – 1-1 Matches
FlyQuest Versus Team Secret Whales
GenG Esports Versus T1
G2 Esports Versus Bilibili Gaming
Hanwha Life Esports Versus 100 Thieves
Day Five – Elimination
Movistar KOI Versus Fnatic
Vivo Keyd Stars Versus PSG Talon
Only two Bo3 matches will take place on day three of the Swiss Stage. KT Versus TES will begin at 1:00 AM PT (10:00 AM CET). The other Bo3 will happen after the first series finishes.
KT 1-2 TES
Both teams have faced non-LPL and LCK opposition so far. Judging where these teams are is difficult as a result. However, in their victories, Top Esports has been more dominant. KT needed MKOI to throw an unlosable game, and they looked shaky against TSW. The focus for TES will need to be on shutting down Bdd. If they can manage that, they should qualify for the Bracket Stage. Just remember, do not get excited for either team if they start winning.
CFO 1-2 AL
CFO came out swinging against T1. They fought them pound for pound and were the better team on the day. However, they did give T1 chances to get back into the game, and if they were on form, CFO would have lost. AL, on the other hand, is coming off two wins against GenG and HLE, where they looked to be back in form. AL struggled in the Summer Split, but they have seemed to return to MSI form, where they were the best non-LCK team in the world.
Since the Swiss Stage was added to Worlds, fans have started to wonder if going 3-0 is worth it. While you do not have to deal with the pressure of more Bo3 series, you find yourself with a 2-week break. GenG has fallen victim to this, crashing out in the Quarterfinals in 2023 and nearly losing in the same position in 2024. LNG also lost in the Quarterfinals last year. Only JD Gaming looked confident when they faced KT in 2023. Will that curse continue, or will the 3-0 teams go on to lift the Summoner’s Cup?
