On Sunday afternoon, the Las Vegas Aces redeemed themselves with a big win over the Seattle Storm on the road.
In the first quarter, the Aces set the tone with a 10-0 run. The Storm didn’t quite take it lying down with the Storm trimming the Aces lead to a mere three points.
A portion of the first quarter, the ball handling became a bit sloppy by both teams. With 3:30 left in the quarter, there were eight turnovers between the two teams.
Dana Evans came in and immediately made an impact giving the Aces a 27-17 lead to close out the first quarter. Rookie Liz Kitley landed in foul trouble with three in the first quarter.
To open the second quarter, the Aces continue to keep the momentum on their end of the floor. Dana Evans scored nine straight points for the Aces. The Aces had great ball movement but couldn’t capitalize at the end of the half but still managed to maintain a 12-point lead, 44-32.
In the second half, the Storm came out with some fire, but the Aces held on with their defense in transition and keep the Storm from inside. With 6:05 left in the third quarter, the Storm went on an 8-0 with Skylar Diggins leading the charge.
A’ja Wilson found her footing, scoring her 17th point, hitting a three-pointer. Aaliyah Nye came in to knock down one three-pointer and fouled behind the arc. The Aces closed out the third quarter 61-47.
In the fourth, the Storm came out with some strength, poised to make a comeback cutting the Aces lead to just nine. It went down to the wire between the two teams.
The Aces avenged their 20-point loss from last week with a 75-70 win over the storm.
Following the win, A’ja Wilson said, “We see it. Becky said it a little bit in the locker room, they’ve been kicking our asses. You just gotta trust. We’re developing that trust factor now.”
“I’m trusting my teammates every single day on that court. I love ‘em and I’m gonna want the best out of them so, I think we just hold each other to a standard of excellence, and you see that, whether it’s the first player or the 12th player, we’re going to hold each other accountable.”
Next up, the Aces take on the new Golden State Valkyries on Saturday, June 7 at 12pm PT at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
