The Las Vegas Aces (28-14) clinch their 14th straight win against the Chicago Sky (10-32) in front of a hometown crowd at the T-Mobile Arena on Sunday.
The Chicago Sky were without their star Angel Reese. Reese is serving a two-game suspension following comments detrimental to the team.
In the first quarter, the Ace controlled the opening tip and immediately played smothering defense on the Sky. A’ja Wilson hit the opening jumper to give the Aces the quick 2-0 lead.
The Aces then proceeded to go on an 8-0 run, with Jackie Young adding to the lead.
“I think we’re just starting out aggressive,” Jackie Young said before the start of the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Aces continued to control more of the momentum. At the 5:45 mark, the Aces led 31-19.
The Aces closed out the first half with a 43-27 lead over the Sky.
To start the second half, Chicago began chipping away at the Aces’ large lead but could not consistently eat away at the lead. At the 5:00 mark of the game, the Aces led 75-58.
The Aces clinch their playoff spot with their 14th consecutive win since the All-Star break.
“The job’s not done. We still gotta go back to the lab and regroup because we’re going to see them [Chicago] again and they’re going to look completely different,” A’ja Wilson said in a post-game interview.
Wilson ended the night with 31 points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Young added 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Las Vegas meets Chicago for the final time this season on Tuesday, September 9 at the T-Mobile Arena at 7pm PT.
