Aces face a major test against the Sun
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday, The Las Vegas Aces will be taking on the Connecticut Sun for the first time this season. The game will be broadcast on ION starting at 7 p.m.

This will be a tough test for the Las Vegas Aces, who have struggled to start the season, but with the return of Chelsea Gray on Wednesday, they looked like the Aces of old. The Aces enter this game 7-6 after winning their last game, while the Sun are 13-1 and have won nine of their past ten.

There are many interesting storylines heading into this matchup between the leagues best team right now and the defending back-to-back WNBA champions. One of them involves Aces guard Tiffany Hayes, who announced her retirement last season after playing for the Sun.

This will be her first game against her previous squad this season. She was elevated to the Aces starting lineup last game and is now averaging 8.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

Another highlight of this game will be the clash between two of the WNBA’s top MVP candidates, A’ja Wilson and Alyssa Thomas. A’ja Wilson is averaging 27.9 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, 1.8 steals and 2.5 blocks per game. Alyssa Thomas is currently averaging 12.7 points per game, 9.8 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.7 steals.

This matchup also features the top scoring team in the league with the Aces and the best defensive team in the league the Sun. The Aces come into this game averaging a league best 87.4 points per game while the Sun hold teams to a league best average of 70.7 points per game.

This will be a tough test for both sides, with only one able to come out on top. It might also be an early WNBA finals preview.
