Angel Reese Update Announced After Leaving Atlanta Dream

Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream were among the last in action in the WNBA before the season paused to give way to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

The Dream played the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday and won 89-81. Reese impressed in the showdown with her record-breaking 29th double-double of the season, as she finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Suiting up in the game, however, resulted in Reese joining Team USA later than her peers. The Dream forward is among the 12 players selected to represent the national team in the FIBA World Cup.

On Tuesday, Team USA announced that Reese has officially arrived in Berlin and joined her USA teammates as they prepare for the quadrennial tournament. The 24-year-old star made her way to Germany alongside her Atlanta teammate Rhyne Howard.

Also arriving in Germany on Tuesday were Lynx star Napheesa Collier, Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron and Dallas Wings scorer Paige Bueckers. Both Collier and Bueckers also played on Sunday, while Citron was a late addition to the squad following the removal of Kelsey Plum due to injury.

There are plenty of eyes on Reese in the World Cup, especially amid the incredible campaign she has had in the WNBA so far. She’s averaging a double-double of 16.1 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.

Reese is also expected to have a bigger role with Team USA following A’ja Wilson’s decision not to compete due to health reasons. Her improved scoring and elite rebounding will certainly be crucial for the Americans with their best player sidelined.
