Angel Reese did all she could for the Atlanta Dream as they pushed the Golden State Valkyries to a winner-take-all Game 7 in the WNBA Finals. However, the Defensive Player of the Year’s championship bid ended with Atlanta’s heartbreaking 68-63 loss on Saturday night.

The Valkyries are officially the 2026 WNBA champions, marking the franchise’s first title in just its second season in the league.

Reese finished with eight points on 3-of-7 shooting, 12 rebounds, an assist, one steal and two blocks in 33 minutes of action.

The cameras caught Reese’s immediate reaction to the loss just as the final buzzer sounded. The three-time All-Star looked disheartened as she walked off the court.

Reese came agonizingly close to her first WNBA championship. This was also her first postseason appearance after missing the playoffs in her first two seasons with the Chicago Sky.

Reese joined the Dream in the offseason via a blockbuster trade. She made an immediate impact, further establishing herself as one of the best frontcourt players in the WNBA.

The former LSU star helped lead Atlanta to a 30-14 regular-season record to secure the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. The Dream swept the first two rounds of the postseason, going 5-0.

Despite the painful end to the season, Reese delivered another remarkable campaign. She set WNBA single-season records for total rebounds, offensive rebounds and double-doubles, then added more milestones during the playoffs. The 6-foot-4 forward was named an All-Star for a third straight year and earned All-WNBA Second Team honors.

Reese is still under contract with the Dream through 2027 as part of her rookie deal. She is now eligible to sign an extension in the offseason.
