Connecticut Sun star center Brittney Griner has been dealing with injury issues throughout the start of the 2026 WNBA season, as she has played in just three of the Sun's first nine games of the year.

Griner played the first two games of the year before missing two in a row with a foot injury. After coming back from that, she played for Connecticut on May 18 against the Portland Fire, when she scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. Since then, she has been sidelined for the past four games with a right rib strain.

She was listed as probable on Wednesday against the Fire, but was later downgraded to miss her fourth consecutive matchup.

The Sun are set to face off against the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday in Hartford, Connecticut, as they try to get their season back on track.

They will be getting some help to do that, as the Sun released their official injury report ahead of Saturday's game, and Griner was not listed with an injury designation. The only player listed for the Sun was Aaliyah Edwards, who is out due to concussion protocol.

This is great news for Sun fans, who have seen their team get off to one of its worst starts in franchise history, currently holding a 1-8 record.

In the three games she has played this season, Griner has averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. In her career, the 35-year-old has been to nine All-Star Games, won two scoring titles, two Defensive Player of the Year awards and one WNBA title.

Tipoff between the Sun and Sparks is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
