Former head coach Kim Mulkey spoke about Jones’ impact in an interview with KWTX. She remembered Jones as a key presence on the team.

“Melissa Jones left her mark on Baylor University, not just women’s basketball,” Mulkey said. “She was loved by the entire Waco community. Everything she did for us was full speed.”

Mulkey also pointed to Jones’ role inside the locker room. “She played the game the way every player should, she always had energy, she played hard, she was a great leader,” she said. “She was the ‘glue’ that kept the team together.”

Others shared similar memories. David Smoak of 365 Sports recalled her personality and drive. “Melissa Jones was among my favorite athletes to interview over my 44-years in the business” he said. “She was the glue among so many stars at Baylor with such a sweet smile and big heart and tough as nails with a motor was always full-throttle. RIP Melissa Jones.”
