Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream are experiencing their best stretch of the 2025 WNBA season, having won their last six games to improve to 21-11.
Griner, 34, is still playing at a high level during her first season away from the Phoenix Mercury, averaging 10.3 points on 50.9% shooting and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Despite the Dream’s successful season, one thing has caught the attention of Griner and Atlanta fans: the team’s lack of a mascot.
This week, numerous Dream fans requested that the franchise add a mascot. And one post in particular caught Griner's attention.
"ATLANTA DREAM we need a mascot RIGHT NOW," the fan wrote.
"That'd be crazyyy," Griner responded.
The Dream haven’t always been without a mascot. From their inaugural season in 2008 until 2020, Atlanta’s WNBA mascot was Star, a gray bird, before he retired. In a farewell note to fans, Star promised a replacement, a promise that has yet to be fulfilled.
"And please don’t fret Dream fans," Star wrote in 2020. "I have been grooming my replacement for a while now and you will NOT be disappointed. This new heart of the Dream will keep you laughing as we chase a championship in 2020 and beyond."
The recent mascot request from Dream fans likely stems from the Golden State Valkyries' announcement. On Tuesday, they introduced Violet, a raven, to fans in the Bay Area, leaving the Dream as the only WNBA team without a mascot.

Griner and the Dream will look for their seventh straight win on Friday, facing the Seattle Storm for the second time in a row. They defeated the Storm 85-75 on Wednesday.
