The Caitlin Clark Show was back in town on Saturday as the Indiana Fever superstar returned from an injury to lead the Fever against the New York Liberty.
Clark was coming off an injury that had kept her off the court for over a week and the Liberty are the defending WNBA champions and were undefeated going into the game. The deck seemed stacked against Clark.
But 32 points, eight rebounds and nine assists later, Clark made it clear that she is a force to be reckoned with even when she's coming off an injury. Clark accounted for nearly half of the team's first half points and led them to a 102-88 win, ending the Liberty's unbeaten run in the process.
Taking to Instagram after the game, Clark had a simple message for fans:
"good to be back," she wrote.
Fans were just as thrilled as Clark were by her incredible performance upon returning to the WNBA court:
"Unbelievable stat line for your first game back. Showtime!" one user replied on Instagram.
"I need Bella part of your wardrobe every game now thank you," another wrote, referring to her basketball shoes.
"You made the liberty HC clap and smile after you hit that shot on Breanna Stewart that’s ," wrote a third.
"To say you were missed would be an understatement. Welcome back."She got hurt, missed games, team went on a lose streak, she come back against the only unbeaten team in the league, scored 30+ and won. She’s (tough)."
"Light em up!! How bout Stewie acknowledging talent instead of begrudging it!!"
It seems like just about everyone accepts that Caitlin Clark is the true face of the WNBA except for maybe the WNBA itself. Every time she goes somewhere, people want to see her. There hasn't been an athlete of any sport in recent memory who has had an effect like that.
But that's the Caitlin Clark effect for you.
While the Fever still have a ways to go before they're a true powerhouse in the WNBA, it seems like only a matter of time before Clark makes them into one.
