PHOENIX — A newly released all-time college basketball rankings list has sparked debate among hoops fans, as Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark was ranked No. 2, one spot ahead of Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi.
The rankings, which placed former UConn and current New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart at No. 1, have ignited debate, particularly among Mercury fans who have watched Taurasi dominate for two decades. Taurasi, ranked No. 3, won three consecutive national championships at Uconn from 2001 to 2004, earning two National Player of the Year awards, 2,156 career points, and solidifying her reputation as one of the most clutch players in NCAA history.

Clark, meanwhile, shattered records at Iowa, finishing as the all-time leading scorer in Division I college basketball history, with 3,951 points. Her deep three-pointers and elite playmaking made he a generational talent, and her impact on women’s basketball has been undeniable. Now entering he second WNBA season with the Indiana Fever, Clark will be the most nationally televised player in all of basketball, with the Fever set to appear in a record 41 nationally broadcast games – more than any NBA or WNBA team.
Taurasi has not commented on the rankings, but Mercury fans have already voiced their frustration over their star being ranked below Clark. While Clark may have edged out in the college rankings, Taurasi’s legendary WNBA career remains the gold standard – something Clark will have to chase in years to come.
