Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are gearing up for the 2025 WNBA season. After a record-breaking rookie campaign, where she averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, Clark is back on the court with her team ahead of Year 2.
Training camp began on Sunday, and the Fever are just days away from their first preseason game, set for Saturday at their home arena, Gainbridge Fieldhouse. They'll host the Washington Mystics with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
On Wednesday, the team held media day, with Clark and her teammates in full uniform, answering questions and posing for photos.
At one point, Clark was asked, "Caitlin, the inaugural Fever season was 25 years ago. Do you know who the original number 22 was?"
She wasn't sure and hesitated, slowly saying the name of her new Fever head coach, Stephanie White.
"Steph... White," Clark said.
The 23-year-old was right, and then the reporter followed up with an even tougher question that she struggled with and couldn't give an answer for over 10 seconds.
"In that season, can you guess how many points a game she averaged?" the reporter asked.
"... Putting me on the spot, should have studied up," Clark replied. "Uhh... she probably passed the ball well, but... eight."
The answer was 7.2, and Clark admitted she "didn't want to lowball her."

The expectations are sky-high for Clark heading into Year 2. After being named WNBA Rookie of the Year, earning an All-Star selection, making the All-WNBA First Team, and leading the league in assists, the former Iowa Hawkeye is now the favorite to win the 2025 WNBA MVP.
Last season, Clark finished in the top five for MVP voting, but the award ultimately went to Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.
This year, Clark’s odds to win the MVP are +200 according to ESPN Bet. Wilson has the second-best odds at +235, followed by Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier at +400 and New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart at +1100.

Angel Reese's Bikini Vacation Photoshoot Catches Eyes
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese's future is one of the biggest stories to follow during this upcoming WNBA offseason. This is owed to inflammatory comments Reese made about the Sky franchise earlier this month, which sparked a ton of criticism and discourse as fallout. Among what Reese said was that if Chicago's front office doesn't make a better effort to sign top-tier free agents this winter than they did last offseason, Reese is more than willing to seek another franchise to play for. Rightfully so, this set the Sky organization off. Their initial punishment for Reese was to suspend her for half of a game, but that ultimately ended up with Reese's season ending because of what were called back issues. However, given the timing of Reese's absence along with the suspension, many believe that Reese instead elected to sit out the season's remainder. What's more, every member of the Sky's roster was supposed to do exit interviews with the media in the days after their season ended. However, Reese (along with several other players) blew this obligation off. And in Reese's case, she was seen hopping on a private jet with some of her friends to go on vacation just a few hours after the Sky's last game, which is presumably why she missed her exit interview (and won't be taking one). Angel Reese's Bikini Vacation Photos Turn Heads It's unclear where Reese went on vacation. What is clear is that it was somewhere with a beach, as the 23-year-old superstar was posting on her Instagram story every day, showing photos of the beach and various activities she was getting up to. However, Reese has since made several Instagram posts showing photos of her on the trip. One she posted on September 22 shows a photo collage of her lounging in a bikini at what looks to be a beach club with the caption, "face pretty". Those weren't the only vacation photos that Reese posted, as she added several selfies to another post last week that was captioned, “let me put you in some pucci take you out the country”. It will be fascinating to see whether Reese ends up in Chicago or whether she's playing for another franchise by the time 2026 rolls around. However, it doesn't seem like the WNBA is at the top of Reese's mind right now, given how quickly she took her vacation once her second professional season ended.
Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman has message for Chris Ash after Purdue game
The defense has been the story of No. 24 Notre Dame through the first three games of the season. First-year defensive coordinator Chris Ash has struggled to pick up where Al Golden left the unit when he bolted for the Cincinnati Bengals after the national championship game. On Saturday, the Irish defense gave up 23 points to Purdue in the first half before Notre Dame ran away in the second half to win their first game of the season 56-30 in front of 77,622 fans at Notre Dame Stadium. Following the contest, Irish head coach Marcus Freeman told the media that Ash needed to do a better job of matching pressure with his coverage scheme. "Marcus Freeman says Notre Dame needs to do a better job of 'marrying up' coverage with pressure from the defensive front," wrote Tyler Horka of On3 Sports. Notre Dame was panicking on defense Freeman added that the defense was panicking when they changed coverage schemes, but couldn't stop Purdue in the first half. Boilermakers quarterback Ryan Browne diced up the zone coverage, much like Marcel Reed did in Texas A M's 41-40 win over the Irish in Week 2. Freeman defended Ash after the loss to the Aggies, saying the defense's execution was more important than the play calling. The head coach had the same message for his players after beating Purdue. "I don't think they're confused," Freeman said of the defense. "We just aren't executing. But it isn't like our guys don't know what they're doing. They know what they're doing." Freshman quarterback CJ Carr and the offense look capable of going undefeated for the rest of the regular season and competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff. But the defense is going to have to get better if they want to play meaningful football in December-January. Notre Dame's defense was a problem in Week 1 in Miami. Even though the Hurricanes were held to 27 points, Miami could have put up more points if quarterback Carson Beck had been allowed to play as aggressively in the fourth quarter as he had earlier in the game. When Ash calls zone, he's going to have to find a way to generate a pass-rush. All three quarterbacks Notre Dame has faced this season have shown an ability to find open spots in the secondary when they have time to throw in the pocket.
Could Dallas Mavericks re-sign free agent before training camp?
Former Dallas Mavericks guard Quentin Grimes remains a restricted free agent as the league is set to open training camps within the next week or so. Grimes is still tied to the Philadelphia 76ers after a midseason trade from the Mavs, but the team and shooting guard have yet to agree to a deal. According to HoopsHype, Grimes is the third-best free agent available in the NBA. "Small sample size (28 games) needs to be considered, but after getting traded from Dallas to Philadelphia, he put up huge numbers – nearly 22 points per game with over five rebounds and four assists – efficiently, too, shooting almost 47 percent from the floor with the Sixers. That elevation in play could not have come at a better time with him about to hit restricted free agency," HoopsHype wrote. Grimes still in free agency The only free agents higher on HoopsHype's list is Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, who is a restricted free agent like Grimes, and Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley, who is an unrestricted free agent, but was recently cleared in a gambling investigation that is allowing him to play in the NBA this season. are The Sixers can still match any offer that Grimes receives from another team, which is why the interest in him has remained low despite his exceptional run at the end of the season in Philadelphia. Grimes blossomed with his extended opportunity, proving that he belongs in the league. There is a very good chance Grimes ends up with the Sixers this season, so he will likely sign a qualifying offer just before the start of training camp to return on a one-year deal to Philadelphia. Should Grimes sign a qualifying offer, he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Grimes' success since leaving Dallas is another example of general manager Nico Harrison's poor choices in the front office, and while bringing him back could reverse the move he made, a return to the Mavs is unlikely.
Juraj Slafkovský: JiC wants him out of the first line
Last year, at the end of the season, the Canadiens’ first line really took a big step forward. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovský took their game up a notch in the final weeks of the campaign, helping the club qualify for the playoffs.The three guys complement each other well on the ice, and they’ve figured out how to translate that into results.In the eyes of many, then, we should expect to see the three guys back together again at the start of the season. But there are those who see things differently. Jean-Charles Lajoie, who talked about it on his JiC show tonight, is one of them: in his eyes, the Habs need to get Slaf out of the first line.And the reason is simple: it would allow the Habs to have a much more balanced line-up. That way, for example, the club wouldn’t have to put Patrik Laine and Ivan Demidov on the same line and could avoid problems on the defensive end. Martin St-Louis could put one of these two guys on the first line and send Slaf to complete a second unit. And in essence, this point is defensible… except that the club would be taking a big risk. Right now, they only have one line that’s a real sure thing, and removing Slaf from that line (which was one of the best in the NHL last year) would mean the club would lose that advantage.If the club needs a jolt, splitting up the first line could be an option. But at the start of the season, I find it hard to imagine the Habs going ahead with such an idea… especially as we don’t even know if the second line will really be a problem defensively.As things stand, it would be a bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul, in my eyes. But if Paul ever starts to get really cold (read here “the Laine-Demidov duo isn’t working”), maybe it’ll become an idea to consider.And when you see the three guys from the first line together in the same group at camp, it doesn’t look like this wardrobe makeover will happen tomorrow morning. ’Overtime’ – Big Patrik, that. – Indeed. – Great opportunity for
