It was an afternoon to remember at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday. Following the Indiana Pacers’ tough NBA finals loss the night before, the Indiana Fever picked up the weekend for home fans with a 14-point win over the defending champion New York Liberty.
Saturday also marked the return of former University of Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark to the lineup after a quad injury that sidelined her for five games.
Clark was outstanding, showing the same dominance that made her the top pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She poured in a team-high 32 points and added 9 assists and 8 rebounds in her return.
Despite her incredible stat line, Clark was quick to credit her teammates after the game. She singled out fellow returnee Sophie Cunningham with high praise:
"Soph was fantastic," Clark said. "People made really big plays down the stretch."

"Syd was fantastic today (hitting 2 3's). Soph was fantastic. People made really big plays down the stretch."
Cunningham, who had not played since May 30, logged 25 minutes in her return. Her impact went beyond the box score. She finished with 5 points and 4 rebounds, but the Fever were +31 while she was on the court.
The 28-year-old from Columbia, Missouri is in her first season with Indiana after being traded from the Phoenix Mercury in January. She had spent her entire career with Phoenix since being drafted in 2019.
Several Fever players stepped up in the win. Five scored in double figures. Kelsey Mitchell added 22, Lexie Hull scored 14, and both Aliyah Boston and Sydney Colson contributed 10 points each.
The win moved Indiana to 5-5 on the season. The Fever will stay in Indianapolis and host the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.
