Cameron Brink could be facing a fine from the WNBA after an intense moment during the Los Angeles Sparks’ 79-69 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night.
The defeat was the Sparks’ second straight loss and dropped their record to 4-5. While Los Angeles struggled against Las Vegas, much of the postgame discussion focused on Brink’s physical game with Aces forward NaLyssa Smith.
Brink came off the bench and recorded nine points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. She spent much of the game battling Smith, and the competition between the two players became increasingly heated as the night went on.
The rivalry between Brink and Smith reached another level during the second quarter when Brink blocked Smith’s shot and followed the play with a stare-down. The competitive exchanges continued as the game moved into the final period.
Late in the fourth quarter, Brink and Smith became tangled during a play and exchanged words. Officials quickly stepped in and handed both players double technical fouls.
That technical foul could cost Brink money. According to WNBA rules, players receive a $500 fine for each of their first three technical fouls of the season. Brink now has two technical fouls this year, putting her in line for a $500 penalty. The league increases the fines to $1,000 for a player’s fourth through seventh technical fouls. Any technical foul after that brings a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension.
Meanwhile, Cameron Brink is really tired of NaLyssa Smith.

Brink just furious at another moment of contact with her and NaLyssa, though at least no hit to the nose this time.
Cam was not here for Jackie Young trying to explain anything.

Given the nature of the incident, the technical fouls appear unlikely to disappear. Brink and Smith both took part in the confrontation, and officials judged the exchange worthy of penalties.
Despite the consequences, Brink showed no concern after the game. She made it clear that she stood by her actions and embraced the physical nature of the game.
“I mean, what do you want me to say?” Brink said when asked about her battle with Smith and the emotions that surfaced during the game. “It’s a physical game. I’m not afraid of anybody. That’s all I’m gonna say. I’m not afraid of anybody.”
Brink’s comments reflected the competitive edge she brought to the court against the Aces. While the WNBA may issue a fine in the coming days.
