Chicago Sky Announce Angel Reese Development After Two Straight Missed Games

In her sophomore season, Angel Reese has continued to shine her statistical dominance amid the Chicago Sky’s downward spiral. Through 30 appearances, she’s averaging 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. That rebounding average not only leads her team but ranks first in the entire WNBA this season by a comfortable margin.

Across her two-year career, Reese is averaging 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 64 games, displaying all-around consistency and impact on both ends of the floor.

Meanwhile, the Sky’s broader struggles remain glaring. Chicago sits at 10-32, dead last in the Eastern Conference and are have been eliminated from playoff contention for a while. Their offense ranks 13th in points per game at 75.9, while defensively they allow 85.6 points per game, placing 10th in the league.

While it has been a strong season individually for Reese, she missed Friday’s game due to an automatic WNBA suspension after drawing her eighth technical foul of the season, as mandated by league policy. This threshold was raised to eight following the season’s expansion from 40 to 44 games.

Her absence was extended when the Sky suspended her for the first half of Sunday’s game against Las Vegas after she criticized the team’s direction with comments deemed “detrimental to the team” by the organization. At halftime, the Sky revealed more news: Reese was being ruled out entirely due to a back injury, a move that blindsided many as she hadn’t appeared on the pregame injury report.

Now, the latest development has taken place. Reese has been listed as questionable for Tuesday’s rematch against the Aces, leaving her status for the Sky's second-to-last game uncertain.

Reese’s injury, combined with disciplinary absences, has stripped the Sky of their most reliable player at times this season. Her scoring, rebounding and defense have each been rare bright spots in Chicago’s 10-32 season. Ranking near the bottom in both offensive and defensive metrics, the team’s reliance on Reese is as apparent as their overall dysfunction.

At this stage, clear organizational reform and a stronger roster are imperative if the Sky hope to retain their elite talent, and find a way to recover from what has been the worst season since their inaugural campaign in 2006. Reese’s questionable status for Tuesday aligns with the overall uncertainty the organization faces as it enters a pivotal offseason with major questions.
