Chicago Sky Announcer Reveals Areas Angel Reese Needs to Work On

Lisa Byington has a front row seat to two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese‘s rebounding prowess, as she’s the play-by-play announcer for the Chicago Sky.

Reese hasn’t played since July 29, but she still leads the WNBA in rebounds per game and total rebounds.

“She’s improved her numbers in a lot of different categories,” Byington said about Reese, via Michael Grant of AwfulAnnouncing.com. “She’s upped her scoring numbers from her rookie season to her sophomore season. She’s still leading the league in rebounding. The thing that I thought was encouraging is that in the first few games, when you lose your point guard in Courtney Vandersloot, Tyler Marsh gave Angel Reese a little bit more latitude in terms of handling the ball, creating some offense, playing more point forward. The result of that is she recorded her first triple-double in her career against Connecticut. Moments like that are significant.”

Reese has started 23 games for the Sky this season. She’s averaging 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 44.4% from the floor, 20.0% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the free-throw line. The LSU product has 17 double-doubles and one triple-double.

“I think distributing and finishing from all areas of the floor is something that everyone would work on,” Byington said about Reese. “And she would say that would be the first thing that she would want to work on as well. To continue to be and play at an All-Star-caliber level. Let’s not forget that she’s been in this league for two years. She’s been an All-Star for two years. Some people have played for over a decade and haven’t been an All-Star once. So, she’s doing all the right things in her first couple of years at the pro level.”

Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks as a rookie. The Maryland native has already established herself as one of the top rebounders in WNBA history.

In 57 career games with the Sky, Reese is averaging 13.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks. Chicago, though, is only 19-38 when Reese plays.

Reese signed a four-year, $324,383 contract with the Sky last year after getting drafted in April. She also agreed to a multi-year endorsement contract extension with Reebok in October 2024.
