Chicago Sky GM Reveals Clear Plan Before WNBA Draft

When the Chicago Sky used both of their first-round picks on post players in the 2024 WNBA Draft, it gave fans a good idea of what direction the franchise was headed. They selected LSU forward Angel Reese and South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso to headline their team, which indicated that they were planning to build their team on toughness, rebounding and having a strong interior presence.

The team did miss the playoffs last season by two games, which spurred the firing of head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, but general manager Jeff Pagliocca kept his job. He'll need to add a few more solid players this offseason, beginning with the draft, if he wants to stay off the hot seat this year.

The Chicago Sky own the No. 10 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, and they'll need to hit on another prospect if they want to take another step this season. Pagliocca spoke to the Daily Herald about what he is looking for in this draft and his impressions of the class overall.

“We want to keep adding athletes and length,” Pagliocca said. “This draft class has a lot of depth to it. We’re paying attention to everybody.”

Fans have been advocating for the team to pair up former college teammates by adding either South Carolina's Te-Hina Paopao or LSU's Aneesah Morrow in the first round. The problem is that Morrow is unlikely to be available, and Paopao's stock has fallen a bit after a poor 2024-25 campaign with the Gamecocks.

Whoever Pagliocca decides to add will need to be ready on day one, as the Sky have no time to waste in a loaded Eastern Conference. They'll have the first opportunity to showcase their offseason additions on the opening night of the WNBA season when they take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on May 17.
