Chicago Sky Honor Kia Nurse on Sunday After Career Milestone

Sunday’s WNBA tilt between the Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx unfolded as another chapter in a challenging 2025 season for the Sky.

After leading by 14 (24-10) at the end of the first quarter, the Sky saw their lead diminish quickly in the second, being outscored 28-13 and never fully getting back on track, ultimately losing to the Lynx 80-75.

Yet, it was a moment in the third quarter that garnered attention from Chicago's social media team.

At the 4:44 mark, 29-year-old sharpshooter, Kia Nurse hit a 3-point dagger to cut Minnesota's lead to two (48-46), but more importantly, it etched her name into history as that score accounted for her 2,000th career points.

Over 218 regular‑season games spanning seven WNBA seasons and five different franchises, Nurse has carved out a reputation as a sharpshooting, two‑way guard.

Drafted 10th overall by the New York Liberty in 2018, she made an immediate impact, scoring 17 points in her debut and posting a rookie‑season high of 34 points just weeks later.

A 2019 WNBA All‑Star starter, Nurse became only the third Canadian in history to start in the showcase event and participated in the All‑Star 3‑Point Contest.

After stints with New York (2018-2020), Phoenix Mercury (2021), Seattle Storm (2023), Los Angeles Sparks (2024), and finally Chicago (2025-present), she’s added two WNBL championships and a WNBL MVP in 2020.

Prior to the WNBA, Nurse starred at UConn, where she was a two-time NCAA champion and averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game as a senior.

Coming into Sunday, Nurse was averaging 7.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 22 minutes per game on the season.
