On one hand, the message from the team could be simply that Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is a good passer. She had three assists on Friday against the Dream, and entered the game averaging 2.6 assits on the season and 2.0 on her career.
But, on the other hand, point guard is a bit of a mess right now for the Sky, and wasn't in the greatest of shape even before the team lost veteran stalwart Courtney Vandersloot to a devastating, season-ending knee injury to start the week.
Vandersloot was the ideal organizational point guard, a cool head who could set up the Sky offense and help take advantage of second-year Chicago bigs Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese. It didn't quite work out that way, what with Vandersloot a step too slow at age 36 and with the Cardoso-Reese combo still lacking enough offensive versatility to get the team humming on that end.
So when Reese collected one of her assists in the Dream's 88-70 blowout on Friday, the Chicago Sky X account sent out an eye-opening post: "PG 5???????"
PG 5???????

Reese, clearly, is no point guard. She is not a bad passer but she does not see the floor particularly well when getting double-teams. And assists arehard to come by in a Sky offense that is lacking reliable shooters.
But it's odd that the team account would bring up the point guard spot, because it is a woeful situation--and maybe using Reese as a point forward will prove to be Chicago's best solution.
As it stands, the Sky have been starting a backcourt of Ariel Atkins and Kia Nurse, and neither is much of a playmaker. Rookie Hailey Van Lith makes some sense, but it is clear that coach Tyler Marsh does not trust her--she played only four minutes on Friday.
The Sky need help at the position. Perhaps the team's admin is advocating just making Reese the point guard from here.
