Chicago Sky’s Tyler Marsh Responds to Major Loss on Saturday

The Chicago Sky had an opportunity to improve their record on Saturday when they faced a Catilin Clark-less Indiana Fever team. But they got routed, 79-52, in what was an overall horrible performance, which dropped their record to 2-5.

Even worse, they lost guard Courtney Vandersloot to a knee injury in the first quarter. She didn't return, and now the concern is that she could miss some time as a result.

Sky head coach Tyler Marsh said afterward that the severity of the injury was still being determined.

He also talked about how important Vandersloot is to the team.

"She’s our engine," Marsh said of Vandersloot. "She’s our captain, our leader out there."

Vandersloot, a 15-year veteran, came into this game averaging 12.0 points, 6.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game. She spent her first 12 seasons with Chicago before playing for the New York Liberty during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.

She has led the WNBA in assists seven times, and her experience as a two-time champion is considered invaluable to a Chicago team that is now retooling around Angel Reese.

Reese, who was an All-Star last year as a rookie, is struggling a ton with her shooting, and she was just 2-of-7 from the field on Saturday. As a team, the Sky shot just 32.1% from the field and 20% from 3-point range while committing 19 turnovers, and not a single player scored in double figures for them.

They will next head east to face the Liberty on Tuesday in their second game of Commissioner's Cup play before playing against the Atlanta Dream on Friday. Saturday's loss snapped a budding two-game winning streak for them.
