Angel Reese continues to be one of the most popular athletes in the WNBA today. In fact, the Chicago Sky star is the most-followed player in the league on Instagram, boasting 5.1 million followers.
Unfortunately for Reese, popularity does come with its downsides. The two-time WNBA All-Star has gotten plenty of criticism — warranted and not — since she arrived in the WNBA. There have also been a number of instances of fake news involving her, such as a fabricated quote that was attributed to her back in July.
At the time, Reese allegedly said, "Y’all make $1,400 a week… I make $1,400 in 7 days." Sure enough, it quickly went viral, with one post getting 10.9 million views. However, there was no proof that the Sky forward made the comment at all.
Now, in a recent episode of her "Unapologetically Angel" podcast, the 23-year-old asked her fans and followers not to believe anything they read about her. Instead, she urged them to make sure they see a video of her actually saying something.
"Everything I say here, if y'all don't see the clip, y'all don't see the video come from my mouth or me saying certain things, do not believe it," Reese shared before citing the fake quote attributed to her recently.
"Repeat after me: If you do not see the clip, do not believe it."
Angel Reese has never shied away from expressing her opinion on issues and topics that matter. That being said, to her point, there will often be a video of her saying something if it really came from her.
The bad news for Reese is that fake news runs rampant, especially with the wide use of social media. There are several satire pages and websites that peddle false news and fabricated messages just for the sake of clicks, views and followers.
