When the Indiana Fever play the Washington Mystics on Tuesday, they will be without guards Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham.
Both Clark and Cunningham have been ruled out for the game, with the former nursing a left quadriceps strain and the latter dealing with a right ankle injury.
That being said, it's hard to blame anyone for thinking that the Fever are in trouble. After all, they have lost three straight games — with their last two coming without Clark. It's also worth noting that Washington beat Indiana 83-77 in the team's first game without their All-Star playmaker.
Despite the Fever's recent struggles, however, ESPN still sees Stephanie White's team winning Tuesday's showdown.
In fact, the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives the Fever a 74.2 percent chance to win, while the Mystics are at 25.8 percent. That's certainly a surprising margin in favor of Indiana, especially considering that its best player is out.
For what it's worth, though, in their previous game against the Mystics, ESPN also had the Fever winning. As mentioned, Washington came out on top, thanks to Brittney Sykes (21 points, nine rebounds) and rookies Kiki Iriafen (16 points, eight rebounds) and Sonia Citron (13 points, seven rebounds).
It remains to be seen if the Fever can end their skid and return to the win column. They did get some much-needed help after signing Aari McDonald as emergency player using the WNBA's hardship exception.
They also received some good news , with Sydney Colson expected to play against the Mystics despite suffering a leg injury in their previous outing against the Connecticut Sun.
