There's a lot of excitement surrounding the much-anticipated return of Caitlin Clark for the Indiana Fever. The 23-year-old has finally been cleared to play after missing her team's last five games due to a quad injury.
It's not just Clark who's returning on Saturday against the New York Liberty. Sophie Cunningham, who has missed Indiana's last three contests due to an ankle issue, is also set to suit up against the defending champs.
On Friday, Fever head coach Stephanie White spoke to reporters to provide an update on the status of Cunningham, who missed time after reaggravating the ankle injury that kept her out of Indiana's first two games of the season.
"I think she's going to be ready to roll as well," White said, via Chloe Peterson of the IndyStar. "Sophie looked really good. You know, her timing was good. Getting back into game, rhythm and timing is the most important thing, and being able to change directions. I thought she looked good.
"She's had really good workouts throughout the course of the week, and then it's just been reintegrating into live action."
The Fever have taken a cautious approach on Cunningham ever since she re-injured her ankle. The biggest concern was running the risk of tweaking the same ankle agan for a third time, which could prove problematic.
This is exactly why it's great to hear Coach White speaking so optimistically about the veteran guard.
Cunningham isn't exactly a star, but there's no denying that she will be an important piece around Clark this season as the Fever look to compete for a WNBA championship.
