The Indiana Fever and superstar guard Caitlin Clark will open up their 2026 WNBA season on Saturday with a preseason matchup against the New York Liberty.
After suffering through an incredibly disappointing 2025 campaign riddled with injuries, Clark is ready to get back on the court. Following an impressive rookie season in 2024, Clark was only able to play in 13 games last year.
Fans could not be more excited to see Clark back in action. There has been some question about her status for Saturday’s game. However, those questions have been answered.
Not only did Clark reveal that she will be playing against the Liberty, she also provided an update about what kind of workload she will have during preseason action.
As shared by Olympics.com, Clark shared what her expected role is against New York.
“I’m not going to go out there and play 30 minutes on Saturday,” Clark said. “That won’t be the case. I think mostly off the ball and mostly on dead balls. I think I’m the best transition player in the league. That’s where I thrive.”
Clark continued on, sharing that playing off the ball more will help keep her healthy and fresh this season.
“Everybody knows that’s my game, so getting the ball off a rebound or in transition, that’s why I’m probably going to be the primary ball handler more than anything, and then getting off the ball a little bit and catching your breath.”
Throughout her first two WNBA seasons, Clark has played in 53 games and averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. She has also shot 40.5 percent from the floor and 32.9 percent from three-point range.
Regardless of how much Clark plays against the Liberty, simply seeing her back on the court will be a win for the fans.
Prior to the start of the regular season, the Fever are being viewed as one of the top championship contenders in the WNBA. Assuming Clark can stay healthy, they’re going to be a very difficult team to beat.
