On Aug. 19 the Indiana Fever confirmed guard Sophie Cunningham would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
"The Indiana Fever announced today that guard Sophie Cunningham will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season after suffering an injury during the team’s game at the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon," the team said in a statement at the time. "Cunningham sustained a season-ending injury in her right knee during the second quarter of the game and is expected to make a full recovery."
Cunningham became a household name amongst WNBA fans when she came to the defense of Caitlin Clark on a number of occasions during the 2025 season. After acting as an enforcer for one of the most popular players in the league, Cunningham's social media profiles gained millions of followers across Instagram and TikTok.
Not afraid to post whatever she wants, the guard quickly gained favor amongst fans for her personality - and her content. After suffering her season-ending knee injury, Cunningham pushed the envelope with a post showing her derriere with the caption, "back when my knee was healthy."
The image quickly racked up over 150,000 likes and thousands of comments including several from Clark who said she "can't like this," after saying, "Jeez Sophie."
Fast forward a few days to her latest Show Me Something podcast, she explained why she regrets making this post.
"While you were on pain meds, is that when you posted the picture of your a** on Instagram?" Cunningham's co-host, West Wilson, questioned after she admitted to taking pain medication after the surgery.
"How did you know?" Cunningham said with a smile. "Since surgery, last episode, I don't remember what we talked about. I don't remember much at all."
Cunningham later admitted, "That was a mistake," when tasked with explaining the number of comments the post received.
