New 2026 WNBA Draft pick Raven Johnson is already pretty familiar with Caitlin Clark. The two faced off in college, most notably during a 2023 Final Four matchup between South Carolina and Iowa that saw Clark wave off Johnson on an open 3-point shot. The pair are now teammates after the Indiana Fever selected Johnson in last week’s draft, but there’s apparently no bad blood carrying over from their collegiate days.
“No, we haven’t. I think that’s in the past, honestly,” Johnson said when asked if she and Clark had spoken about the incident from three years ago.
“We’re teammates now, and we have one goal: That’s to win a championship. And, you know, I’m coming in, and I want to win a championship, too. And I’m pretty sure that’s her main goal too. So whatever I can do to help win a championship, that’s the goal right now,” Johnson concluded.
Raven Johnson on whether she has spoken to Caitlin Clark on the viral wave-off moment in 2023:
“No, we haven’t. I think that’s in the past, honestly. We’re teammates now and we have one goal, that’s to win a championship.”

Johnson is coming out of South Carolina as the Fever’s the 10th overall pick. In her senior year, she averaged 9.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 48.6% from the field and 39.8% from beyond the arc. Johnson was also a two-time NCAA Champion, a two-time NCAA All-Region selection, and an AP All-American.
Clark and Johnson will get their first taste of their connection as teammates when the Fever tip off the preseason on Saturday versus the New York Liberty.
