Indiana Fever Rookie Makes Move Amid WNBA Break
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

The WNBA season is currently on pause for the FIBA World Cup. Several stars, such as Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and teammate Aliyah Boston, headed to Berlin, Germany, to represent Team USA in the tournament.

That being said, there will be no WNBA basketball for the next three weeks. The FIBA World Cup starts Friday and will run until Sept. 13. The 2026 season resumes on Sept. 17.

While several non-Team USA players are taking the opportunity to rest and recuperate before getting back to work, Fever rookie Raven Johnson is doing things differently.

Instead of enjoying some much-needed time off, she decided to work on her game. In the past couple of days, the Fever rookie has shared several photos and videos of herself working with skills development coach Chris Hyppa.

Based on what she shared, it seems Johnson is trying to improve her shooting and ball-handling.

It’s worth noting that Johnson is already a great defensive player, but her offense certainly leaves much to be desired. Clearly, though, she understands where she’s lacking and is trying to address it.

Johnson has had an up-and-down rookie season so far. In her first 22 games, she averaged 4.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 14.7 minutes per game. However, she has since seen a decrease in her role, playing just 2.9 minutes per game and putting up 1.0 point, 0.2 rebounds and 0.2 assists.

Overall this season, Johnson is averaging 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

It remains to be seen if the Fever will utilize Johnson more come the playoffs. For now, however, the 23-year-old guard is staying ready.
