The Indiana Fever have added veteran guard Shey Peddy to their roster on a seven-day hardship contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The move comes in direct response to the season-ending knee injury suffered by guard Sophie Cunningham during Sunday’s overtime win over the Connecticut Sun.
Earlier this year, Peddy appeared in six games (five starts) for the Los Angeles Sparks on a hardship contract, averaging 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 41.7% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range. She was waived on July 2.
Shortly after the move to acquire Peddy was finalized, she reshared the Fever’s welcome post on Instagram with the caption, "Blessed ."
Drafted 23rd overall by the Chicago Sky in 2012, Peddy did not make her WNBA debut until 2019 with the Washington Mystics after several years playing overseas in Austria, Israel and Germany.
Her career highlights include:
The Fever’s guard rotation has been decimated by injuries over the last month:
With Cunningham’s injury, Indiana was left with just three healthy guards: Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull and Odyssey Sims. The team released Kyra Lambert, who had been on a short-term deal, to make room for Peddy.
Indiana enters the final month of the regular season at 19-16, sitting in sixth place in the WNBA standings and third in the Eastern Conference.
The team has navigated a challenging schedule and multiple roster disruptions, including the absence of its franchise point guard, but needs to finish the year strong to have a shot a deep playoff run.
Peddy will wear No. 5 for the Fever and her first chance to debut for Indiana will come on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the top-ranked Minnesota Lynx (28-5).
