The Chicago Sky have endured a challenging start to their 2025 campaign, sitting at just 4-10 (.286) and fifth in the Eastern Conference after 14 games.

The team has struggled on both ends of the court, averaging only 77.9 points per game (second-worst in the WNBA) while conceding 88.2 points (worst in the league).

Amid these struggles, center Kamilla Cardoso has emerged as one of Chicago’s few bright spots.

Playing in all 14 games, Cardoso is averaging 12.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.8 blocks in 23.1 minutes per contest.

But Cardoso will be unavailable for at least three Sky games starting June 28 as she joins Brazil’s national squad for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile.

As she leaves the team for what will be a crucial stretch of games, Cardoso posted on her Instagram on Thursday with the message, "Smiling through it all ✨."

Prior to joining Chicago in 2024, Cardoso won two NCAA championships with South Carolina under Hall of Fame coach Dawn Staley, earning Most Outstanding Player honors in the 2024 Final Four.

The third overall pick in the 2024 draft, she was named to the All-Rookie Team after averaging 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 32 contests (29 starts).

The AmeriCup tournament runs through July 6, with Brazil in Group A alongside Argentina, Canada, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.

Looking ahead, the Sky’s next three matchups against the Golden State Valkyries, Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx—all road games—will test their depth without Cardoso.
