Former Iowa Hawkeyes star Kate Martin is now part of the Los Angeles Sparks . She joined the team after the Golden State Valkyries waived her prior to the start of the 2026 WNBA season.
However, since she signed a player development contract instead of a standard WNBA deal, she can only play in up to 12 games for the Sparks. Unfortunately, she was not activated for Wednesday's showdown against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Despite not playing, Martin was in attendance at the game at Crypto.com Arena to show her support for the Sparks. She also shared a moment with her former Hawkeye teammate and now Fever star Caitlin Clark after the game.
Martin and Clark shared a hug and talked for a bit postgame. The Sparks guard also shared a sweet goodbye with the Fever playmaker, saying, "Bye Cait, I love you."
After their interaction, Martin took to her Instagram story to send a message to Clark and show how happy she is for her success.
"Proud of this girl," Martin wrote, while sharing Clark's post about their reunion.

Clark led the Fever to an 87-78 victory over Martin's Sparks on Wednesday, recording 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, along with four rebounds, nine assists, two steals and one block.
The Fever and Sparks will meet again on June 27 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana and on July 28 in L.A. once again. Sure enough, hopes are high that Martin will be activated in one of those games.
