Last year, the Los Angeles Sparks went 8-32, which was the worst record in the WNBA. But so far this season, there seems to be a bit of tangible hope that they can compete for a playoff spot.
They got past Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky by a final score of 91-78 on Sunday to improve their record to 2-3. Kelsey Plum had a big performance with 28 points and eight assists, and she shot 9-of-18 from the field and made six of her 10 3-point attempts.
The Sparks took to their official X account to honor her big game.

She seriously outplayed Reese, who had 13 points and 12 rebounds. At one point in the game, she drove past Reese and scored a layup, then gave Reese, who is about seven inches taller, the "too small" gesture.
In L.A.'s season opener last weekend, Plum poured in 37 points, to go along with six assists and five steals, in an 84-67 win over the Golden State Valkyries.
Over the last three seasons, she made the All-Star team three times and helped the Las Vegas Aces capture back-to-back championships.
During her college career at Washington, she averaged 25.4 points a game and won the Naismith College Player of the Year award, the Nancy Lieberman Award and the AP Player of the Year award in 2017.
The Sparks were understandably thrilled to acquire her in a trade back in February, and her championship experience will be invaluable to them as they look to become competitive again.
