After a sensational season in 2024 that saw her win WNBA Rookie of the Year and set the league on fire by breaking seemingly every record imaginable, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark had opened the 2025 season with a bang.
She recorded a triple-double in the team's season opener against the Chicago Sky, and has recorded a double-double in two of the team's next three games. While fans have been as excited as ever to see her play again, they'll have to wait a while before she retakes the floor.
As revealed in a bombshell release on Monday, the Fever guard will be out for a couple of weeks with an unforeseen injury.
"Caitlin Clark has suffered a left quadriceps strain and will be out a minimum of two weeks," wrote the team.
With a timeframe that specifically says a "minimum of two weeks," Clark will likely be unavailable for the team's June 7 matchup against the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup. While this also means she will miss the team's three games before that, Clark going up against the Sky's Angel Reese has been must-see television.
When Clark's Fever took down Reese's Sky 93-58 to open the year, the game drew 2.7 million viewers.
A mark that, according to The Athletic, was the most-viewed regular-season game across all ESPN networks ever. The report also revealed that it is considered the most-watched regular-season game for the WNBA in 25 years.
Although fans will be devastated not to see the former college rivals go at it again, the Fever and Sky are set to play each other three more times this season. In terms of the other games that Clark will miss with the injury, she will be out for two games against the Washington Mystics and one against the Connecticut Sun.
The injury news comes after Clark played 38 minutes in the team's 90-88 loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday. In that game, she scored 18 points and had 10 assists.
Her injury is a big blow not only for the Fever, who are 2-2 and have many new pieces, but also for the league.
