The Chicago Sky fell to 0-3 in the 2025 WNBA season with a 91 to 78 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday evening. The team lost to the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty to open up the year by 35 and 25 points, respectively.
This means that Sunday marked the Sky's third straight loss of 13 points or more and the third consecutive game in which they gave up 91 or more points to their opponents.
While both the Fever and Liberty made the 2024 WNBA playoffs, the Sparks had the worst record in the entire league last season, going 8-32.
The double-digit loss to the Sparks was disappointing for the team, as new Chicago head coach Tyler Marsh is still looking for his first win as a head coach. The Sky are currently tied for last place in the WNBA standings, as the Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun both have 0-4 records.
Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts spoke to the media after the team's win on Sunday. She talked about the Sky and how they were able to pull off the victory against a talented team.
"I thought we kind of took them out of what made them comfortable," Roberts said. "They're a good team, and like I said, they've played a tough schedule."
2024 WNBA All-Star forward Angel Reese scored a season-high 13 points for the Sky, and she dished out four assists. She also recorded 12 rebounds, which gave her a double-double, her second in three games.
Kamilla Cardoso, who was on the 2024 WNBA All-Rookie team, put together a 12-point, six-rebound, three-assist performance against the Sparks, her best outputs of the 2025 season.
The Chicago Sky will have to move on quickly from their loss, as they take on the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday evening. The Mercury are 3-1 after a victory over the Washington Mystics and are currently second in the Western Conference.
