Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese has been selected to be part of Team USA. Now, she’s in Berlin, Germany, as the national team prepares for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Reese has been sensational in the WNBA this season, averaging 16.1 points, 12.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. She has also been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week in each of the past two weeks after putting up a monstrous stat line of 19.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.0 steals during that span.
Naturally, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding Reese and her upcoming run with Team USA. It is the Dream forward’s FIBA World Cup debut with the senior team, so that only adds to the hype surrounding her.
The fans’ enthusiasm for Reese playing for Team USA was on full display in her latest social media post. On Instagram, the 24-year-old WNBA All-Star shared a post highlighting that she’s ready to play for the national team, prompting supportive reactions from her followers.
“AR15. Reporting for duty. Such an honor. @usabasketball,” Reese wrote in her post, along with several photos of herself taken during media day.
Interestingly, many were quick to come up with a new nickname for Reese as she begins another chapter in her basketball career, from “Berlin Barbie” to “Team USA Barbie.”
“Let’s go Berlin Barbie!!” a fan wrote. Another one thought of the same nickname and wrote, “BERLIN BARBIE.”
A fan added, “pretty international barbiee.”
“TEAM USA BARBIE!!!” a supporter stated, while a fifth follower shared, “USA Barbie.”
“MISS AMERICAN BARBIE GIRL,” a poster noted.
A social media user noted, “Captain America.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how Reese performs with Team USA, especially after A’ja Wilson withdrew from the competition. For what it’s worth, Reese remains confident about the squad’s ability to dominate despite not having its best player, given the depth of its roster.
