This hasn't been the best time to be a sports fan in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The Dallas Mavericks recently got rid of generational superstar Luka Doncic, the Dallas Wings have the WNBA's worst record and the Dallas Cowboys continue to flounder on an annual basis.
But help seems to be on the way for two of those franchises. Paige Bueckers has given the Wings some real hope in her rookie season, and the Mavericks will have the No. 1 pick in next week's NBA draft.
Bueckers, who was the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft just weeks ago, said she will be at the Mavericks' watch party when the draft takes place on June 25.
"Yeah, I'm planning to be there, so be fun to support them there as well," she said.
She also commented on how there is reason to be hopeful for pro basketball in the Metroplex.
"Yeah that will be really cool," she said about another local team having a No. 1 pick. "Obviously highly anticipated being Cooper [Flagg] but again, just exciting times in Dallas for all the franchises and organizations."

As for having another No. 1 overall pick in town:

Just about everyone expects Flagg, the Duke freshman sensation, to be taken by the Mavs with the No. 1 pick. He is a do-it-all 6-foot-9 forward who excels on both ends of the floor and has been compared by some to Scottie Pippen, the Hall of Famer who won six NBA championships alongside Michael Jordan.
It was a huge surprise when Dallas won the NBA draft lottery, given that it had a minuscule chance of doing so, but winning that No. 1 pick has been the proverbial defibrillator shock it badly needed.
Bueckers has been starting to tap into her potential lately with the Wings. She's averaging 17.7 points and 5.7 assists a game while shooting 47.2% from the field, and she exploded for 35 points a week ago versus the Phoenix Mercury.
Just a couple of months ago, she led UConn to the women's NCAA championship. With Flagg leading the way, Duke was expected to claim the men's national title, but it fell in the Final Four round to Houston.
