Despite the Dallas Wings‘ disappointing season hitting another roadblock following their 30-point loss against the Phoenix Mercury, sensational rookie Paige Bueckers just announced that there’s a new kid on the block.
While the Wings’ four wins in their last six games indicated a switch in momentum for Chris Koclanes’ side, the loss in Phoenix has brought them back down to earth.
On the other hand, Paige Bueckers continues to ride the high of her wild rookie season with the Wings. Last week, the No. 1 draft pick in the 2025 WNBA draft broke Caitlin Clark’s record for most All-Star votes accumulated by a rookie.
Then, after the defeat against the Mercury, which also marked her 15th game in the league, Bueckers joins Clark in the exclusive club of players to have an average 15-plus points and five-plus assists through their first 15 games in the WNBA.
Bueckers is averaging 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.6 steals + blocks on 88% shooting in her first 15 games, making her part of the elite club with a fellow No. 1 overall pick.
With Bueckers breaking records as she navigates through her rookie season, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will be highly pleased as the league seems to have found Clark’s archnemesis.
The UConn Huskies will be represented well in the upcoming 2025 WNBA All-Star Game as Napheesa Collier , Breanna Stewart, and Paige Bueckers headline Team Collier for their July 19 clash against Team Clark.
During the All-Star Draft on Tuesday night, Collier picked Bueckers as the final starter for their side, whom she referred to as “my baby Husky.”
Bueckers will be the only rookie among the All-Star starters this year, earning her first All-Star selection just months into her professional career. Fellow former Husky Gabby Williams also earned her first All-Star nod, but only made it as a reserve.
Collier will be starting the All-Star game alongside New York Liberty’s Stewart, Atlanta Dream’s Allisha Gray, Seattle Storm’s Nneka Ogwumike, and Dallas Wings’ Bueckers.
On the other hand, Clark will be joined by her Indiana Fever teammate Aliyah Boston, Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu, Las Vegas Aces’ A’Ja Wilson, and Phoenix Mercury’s Satou Sabally as the starters against Team Collier.
