Paige Bueckers has been in the headlines ever since her arrival in the league. Coming in as a rookie last year, the 23-year-old star has been breaking records with utmost ease. Now, as the former UConn Huskies star is bracing up to yet another stellar run, the Dallas Wings’ star has revealed how she constantly keeps tabs on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s game.
Following the Dallas Wings’ 91-76 victory over the New York Liberty, the 2025 Rookie of the Year had yet another great outing, dropping 24 points. In a postgame interaction with Myah Taylor, she was asked about the NBA playoffs. Immediately, the Wings’ star admitted how the 2-time NBA MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander’s game inspires her.
“And I mean, I take a lot from Shai’s games, just being able to get your spot consistently. I just really enjoy watching basketball, just sort of see the level of competition,” Bueckers said.
"I take a lot from Shai's game, just being able to get to your spot consistently … Watching Jalen Brunson and his footwork, I think I've learned a lot from that."

Surely, SGA has been making some incredible progress this season. Facing a tough fight in the Western Conference finals, Gilgeous-Alexander led his team to victory in Game 2 following a brutal defeat in Game 1. He also played a big part in guiding the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 3-2 lead in the conference finals.
Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander is not the only person that the 6-foot star takes notes from.
With only one season in the league, the 24-year-old is still learning. Despite taking the WNBA by storm, the Wings’ star has faced some occasional bad days. However, to rectify her mistakes, she is keeping a close eye on the NBA’s top stars. While Gilgeous-Alexander’s positioning has impressed her, Brunson’s footwork is something that the 2025 Rookie of the Year admires.
“And for me in watching Jalen Brunson and his footwork, I think I’ve learned a lot from that, his ability to like not be the tallest, most athletic person on the floor, but his consistency in getting to his spot, getting to the rim, getting to the free throw line, and being aggressive that way,” the 24-year-old said.
Well, it is evident that Bueckers has a knack for learning from the best. However, how much of it she will be able to implement in her games is an interesting prospect that fans will be eager to learn.
