The New York Liberty defeated the Indiana Fever 90-88 inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Fever guard Caitlin Clark put up 18 points and 10 assists, while forward Aaliyah Boston had 27 points and 13 rebounds, which was not enough to overcome the defending WNBA champions. Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu scored 23 points, and center Jonquel Jones scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Things got interesting during the final few possessions when Liberty guard Natasha Cloud blocked Fever guard DeWanna Booner on a layup that some believe should have been called a foul. Following that, Fever guard Lexie Hull was called for a shooting foul on Ionescu with two seconds remaining on the game clock, leading to the Liberty guard making both free throws to give her team a two-point lead.

On the final play of the game, Clark attempted to make what could have been the game-winning 3-pointer, but Cloud stripped the ball from her, although some thought that it should have been called a foul. However, Ionescu shared a different response to Cloud's late-game defensive prowess.

“She had one against DeWanna Booner that was a huge block at the rim and then got a huge stop at the end (on Clark),” the 27-year-old told reporters during a postgame press conference.

In her first three appearances with the Liberty, Cloud is averaging 18.7 points, 7.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. She also is averaging 2.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

In Saturday’s contest against the Fever, the 23-year-old guard recorded five steals and three blocks along with 16 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and six assists.

“She plays with a lot of heart, and we know what we’re gonna get from her,” Ionescu added.

The Liberty’s next game is on Tuesday against the Golden State Valkyries at the Barclays Center at 7 p.m. ET. The Fever's next game is Wednesday against the Washington Mystics inside Royal Farms Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET.
