The Indiana Fever's matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis against the Washington Mystics Friday marked the 12th straight game that Caitlin Clark has been sidelined with a groin injury.
The two-time WNBA All-Star has played in just 13 games this season because of multiple soft tissue injuries, and recently, has been making more headlines for her activity away from basketball.
In response to a poolside TikTok posted by Sophie Cunningham that featured her and Lexie Hull, and the request that swimwear brands partner with the two, Clark made sure to poke fun at her teammates. Clark directed a comment at the brands, urging them to tell the two Fever players to "focus on basketball."
Cunningham addressed the comment on her podcast "Show Me Something," with a playful accusation that Clark was being a "hater."
"I'm gonna kill her, I'm gonna kill her," Cunnigham said. "I just know it. ... She was like, 'Nobody comment. Swimsuit brands tell them to focus get back to basketball or like practice your shot.' And I was like, dude, you are ruining me and Lexi's deal, and I was like, we're the ones who've actually been playing, and we need a little break, and that's when we go to the pool. And I think only like five companies reached out, but if she wouldn't have said anything ..."
Although it sounds like Cunningham didn't get the swimsuit deal she was hoping for, she certainly hasn't been hurting in off-court opportunities. Aside from inking a podcast deal with Colin Cowherd's "The Volume," she also partnered with Arby's for its campaign "Hot Girls Eat Arby's."
As for when she and "hater" of a teammate will take the floor together, that remains a mystery as the Fever have yet to commit to a timetable for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
