Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Feverwon the WNBA Commissioner's Cup last season and received $500,000. While many believe that every player took home $30,000 each, the veteran guard clarified that they earned less.

Cunningham addressed reporters during her media availability on Tuesday. She pointed to taxes, which reduced their prize money.

"Yeah, I think it's something to look forward to, a goal to reach that's in season," Cunningham said. "I think that's the whole point: a little bit more money for everybody, which is nice.

"It's not $30K, by the way, if anyone's wondering, after taxes."

The 29-year-old added that she and her teammates eagerly want to compete and win again.

"But I do think that it gives you something positive to look forward to and work toward, and sometimes you need that in-season motivation."

The Fever will begin their quest to defend their title against Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream on Thursday. They have a 4-4 record this season and are on a two-game losing streak.

An ominous start to the campaign has unfolded, despite a healthy lineup and entering the year as one of the title favorites.

Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell have consistently produced impressive numbers. However, Indiana has struggled to receive steady contributions from the rest of the roster, particularly the bench.

The good news for the franchise is it's still early in the season, and a Commissioner's Cup win against the top team in the East could mark the beginning of a winning streak.
