The WNBA has garnered a lot of attention this season for players walking during the national anthem. Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham shared her thoughts on the development on Wednesday.

She and her teammates have been in the offseason for almost a month. They pushed their first-round playoff series against the Las Vegas Aces to a winner-take-all Game 3 on Oct.1. However, they failed to dethrone the defending champions as they lost 94-83. Indiana finished the regular season with a 28-16 record and secured the No. 6 seed.

Cunningham started the campaign as a starter but was moved to the bench for her offensive firepower. She had an up-and-down campaign, struggling to string strong performances together. The good news was the veteran forward was able to show that she can impact games on both ends of the floor with her timely baskets and hustle.

Cunningham shared her honest take on the players’ decision to walk out when The Star Spangled Banner is sang. She first acknowledged that it has happened all season before giving her thoughts about it.

“I am grateful and I support the people who serve,” Cunningham said. “We have family members who have served and they’re over there doing things that are imaginable for us to be out here living our dreams and having the freedoms that we live. So anytime that I can shout out our veterans and the people who are currently fighting for us to to live in the best country, I’m gonna show that support. And I’m gonna give them love.

“That’s where I stand. That doesn’t mean that’s where everyone stands and if it’s right, wrong, whatever. I take a lot of pride of where I come from and I’m proud to be an American citizen.”

The 30-year-old is of of the most popular players in the WNBA today. She is known for being outspoken about different issues surrounding the league. Cunningham will also enter unrestricted free agency and will likely receive interest from teams around the WNBA.
