Sophie Cunningham made quite an impact in her first season with the Indiana Fever, as she played the role of an enforcer for the team while being a reliable backup guard who can score and defend. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steal in 30 games, including 13 starts.
Unfortunately for Cunningham, her season ended prematurely after she sustained a knee injury during a game against the Connecticut Sun in August. She tore her right MCL, which required surgery.
The 29-year-old guard missed the postseason as well due to her health setback.
Now, Cunningham is recovering and undergoing rehab as she prepares for the 2026 campaign. It's worth noting, however, that the veteran guard is a free agent, and it's still uncertain if the Fever will bring her back.
Amid the questions about her future, though, Cunningham is keeping herself busy with a major change in her life.
In the latest episode of her "Show Me Something" podcast with her good friend West Wilson, Cunningham revealed her current life situation and how she's about to buy a house in Florida.
"I have clothes and stuff everywhere at this house. I have clothes and stuff everywhere in the Indiana house, stuff in my parents' house, about to buy a house in Florida. My life is fun," Cunningham said.
Cunningham has maintained a home in Arizona even after she was traded by the Phoenix Mercury last offseason. However, that chapter is set to end. According to Cunningham, she'll still be in Phoenix this offseason as she continues her rehab, but she'll no longer have a place in the city.
"Yes and no," Cunningham shared when Wilson asked by Wilson if she's officially leaving Phoenix. "Like I'm still going to be around because I'm going to do the majority of my rehab out here, but like living here and like having a place here, no."
She added, "It's kind of sad like a chapter ending, but I'm excited for it. Like it's it's been fun. So, you know."
For now, Cunningham said her "kind of triangle" will be Phoenix, her native Missouri and Florida. Should she end up returning to Indiana on a long-term deal, however, it's safe to assume that it'll be her main base moving forward.
